Baby Shower Games: Fishing for Nipples
This is a fun take on the traditional 'bobbing for nipples' game. Using a Diaper pin-fasten a peel-off magnet to the tips of 8 bottle teats. Create fishing rods with balsa wood, wooden spoons or whatever you have on hand. For the line tie on a piece of metal like fishing weights, paper clips etc. Fill a large tub with water and drop in the baby bottle nipples. Each guest can have a turn at fishing out the nipples. For extra competition stuff gift certificates (in plastic!) inside each nipple.
We mean 'baby' of course! Get this great icebreaker started the moment your guests walk through the door. As you greet each guest, give them a large nappy pin to wear on her shirt and whisper the rule that they can't say 'baby' for the duration of the shower (or until it's time to open presents). If anyone hears someone else saying the forbidden word, she can steal the rule breaker's pin. At the end of the game, the person with the most pins wins a gift.
Keep guests guessing with this activity that also becomes a practical gift. Put at least ten common, useful baby items inside a good quality diaper bag: a bib, teething ring, rattle, bottle and nappies are just a few things that are also fairly inexpensive. Give each guest a pen and paper before passing the diaper bag around. Each person should stick a hand inside the bag and identify as many items as possible. Give each two minutes to feel around guess before moving the bag to the next person. Once everyone has had a go, find out who had the most correct answers. Not only does the winner get a prize but mum to be gets a diaper bag filled with baby essentials!
Get out your inner Picasso with this crafty activity at your baby shower. Buy enough one piece sleepers (multiple sizes to get through the first year or so) and give one to each guest. Stretch each across a piece of cardboard and provide fabric paints and transfers. Guests can tap into their creative sides by painting a fashion masterpiece designed specifically for the bundle of joy.
When you send out invitations to the shower ask all guests to bring along a picture of themselves as babies! On arrival have them drop of the pictures in a basket. As you do, assign a number to each picture and post it up onto a cork board or poster (without anyone cheating!). Have each party goer guess which picture corresponds to each guest using a game sheet with the names of the guests noted down. Award a prize to the person with the most matches!
1) Keep it simple. Try not to cram in too many games. The best games are the ones that are easy to follow. Traditional games can get a new lease on life and added cheeky twist when a Butler in the Buff is involved!
2) Use social media to plan. Collect ideas and invite your friends to a shared message board for a fun way to plan and get everyone involved before the party even starts.
3) Hire a Butler in the Buff. The perfect ice breaker! Your Butler in the Buff will announce the games, read off instructions and hand out materials. He’ll serve up the afternoon tea too leaving you to relax and enjoy the party without having to lift a finger.
