Baby Shower Games: Fishing for Nipples
This is a fun take on the traditional 'bobbing for nipples' game. Create fishing rods with balsa wood and for the line tie on a piece of metal like fishing weights, paper clips etc. Attach magnets to the tips of the bottle teats. Fill a large tub with water and drop in the baby bottle nipples. Each guest can have a turn at fishing out a nipple. Heat things up with gift certificates (in plastic!) inside each nipple.
Why 'baby' of course! A great icebreaker that starts the moment your guests walk through the door. As you greet each guest, give them a large cloth diaper pin to wear on her shirt and whisper the rule that they can't say 'baby' until it's time to open presents. If anyone hears someone else saying the forbidden word, she can take the rule breaker's pin. The mom to be's puzzled reaction adds to the hilarity! At the end of the game, the person with the most pins wins a gift.
This activity also becomes a practical gift for the mom to be. Put at least ten common, useful baby items inside a good quality diaper bag: a bib, teething ring, rattle, bottle and nappies are just a few things that are easy to find and also inexpensive. Give each guest a pen and paper before passing the diaper bag around. Each person should stick a hand inside the bag and identify as many items as possible. Give each one minute to feel around and guess before moving the bag to the next person. Once everyone has had a try, find out who had the most correct answers.
Get out your inner Vera Wang with this creative activity at your baby shower. Buy enough one piece sleepers or vests (multiple sizes to get through the first year or so) and give one to each guest. Stretch each across a piece of cardboard and provide baby safe fabric paints and transfers. Guests can personalise and paint a fashion masterpiece designed specifically for the guest of honor.
As you send out invitations to the baby shower invite all guests to bring along a picture of themselves as a baby or young toddler. When they arrive have them drop of the pictures in a basket. Collect them discreetly, assign a number to each picture and post it up onto a cork board or poster (keep an eye out for cheating!). Have each person guess which picture corresponds to each guest using a game sheet with the names of all participants noted down. Prize goes to the person with the most matches!
